Why kitchens get termites first
Base cabinets sit against walls that carry water pipes. A small leak keeps the wall damp for months without anyone noticing. Termites follow that moisture into the cabinet back and the skirting. The sink unit is usually the first to fail.

Many carpenters use thin, cheap sheets for the back panel. That is the surface termites reach first, so it deserves the same grade as the rest.
Installation habits that keep termites out
- Seal every cut edge with edge band — no raw edges, including sink cut-outs
- Raise base units on PVC or steel legs instead of resting board on the floor
- Repair damp walls and leaking pipes before fitting cabinets
- Do anti termite treatment on the wall if the house has a termite history
A termite resistant board protects the cabinet. It does not stop termites living in the wall behind it — fix the source too.
