BOILO vs Plywood — Which Resists Termites Better?

Plywood has been the default furniture material in Telangana for decades, and good plywood is a sound product. But on the specific question of termites, BOILO and plywood work in very different ways.

How each board is built

Plywood is thin wood veneers glued in layers. Its termite resistance comes from chemicals added to the glue line or by dipping the veneers.

BOILO is wood fibre bonded with resin and pressed into one uniform high density sheet. Its resistance comes from the structure itself.

Where plywood goes wrong

The problem is rarely plywood as a material. It is the wide gap between good and poor plywood. Low-cost sheets may have core gaps, uneven treatment and softwood veneers. Termites enter through the edge, follow the gaps and eat the inner layers while the faces still look fine.

Where plywood still makes sense

• Long spans and structural frames, where its strength-to-weight ratio helps
• Curved work, using flexible ply
• Projects where weight must be kept low

Where termites are the main worry — ground floors, kitchens, bathrooms, outer walls — BOILO gives predictable protection that does not depend on how well a chemical was applied. For dry bedrooms, HDHMR is the economical middle path.
